    • The Secretary of Agriculture approved the Committee’s ranked list of proposals recommended in the July 2020 letter to the Chief and Secretary. The proposals will be funded in that order if and when funding is available.

What does the CFLRP Advisory Committee Do?

  • The purpose of the Committee is to evaluate, support, and provide recommendations on each nominated CFLRP project to the Secretary of Agriculture for final selections. It is solely advisory in nature.
  • To this end, the Advisory Committee is required to meet annually and may meet as often as is necessary to review and evaluate CFLRP proposals and make recommendations.

Who serves on the CFLRP Advisory Committee?

  • Committee members are appointed based on their expertise and knowledge in seven areas named in the CFLRP statute. The expertise areas, and current members named for each, are:
    • Ecological restoration,
      • Susan Jane Brown, Western Environmental Law Center, Staff Attorney
      • Laurene Hamilton, Greening Youth Foundation, VP of Programs
    • Fire ecology,
      • Pete Caligiuri, The Nature Conservancy, Forest Strategy Director
    • Fire management,
      • Neil Chapman, Flagstaff Fire Department, Forest Health Program Manager
      • Kathleen McIntyre, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, Forest Health Program Manager
    • Rural economic development,
      • James Ford, Square O Consulting LLC, CEO
      • Nolo Martinez, mano-Y-ola, Co-President
    • Strategies for ecological adaptation to climate change,
      • Jonathan Bakker, University of Washington School of Environmental and Forest Sciences – Professor
      • Britta Dyer, American Forests, Senior Director of California and the Pacific Islands
      • Leonard Jordan, LJ Conservation Matters LLC, Consultant
    • Fish and wildlife ecology,
      • Jim Inglis, Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever, Director of Government Affairs
    • Woody biomass and small-diameter tree utilization.
      • Molly Pitts, Pitts Resource Consulting, Consultant
  • The Committee consists of officials from academia; tribal, state, county, and/or similar agencies; non-government organizations; and related industries. Committee membership will be fairly balanced in terms of the points of view represented.
