About the Toolkit

GTAC's Terrestrial Ecological Unit Inventory Geospatial Toolkit (TEUI Toolkit) is an ArcGIS Add-In that assists users in mapping and analyzing landscapes using geospatial data. Check out the About section below to learn more -- or explore the FAQs in this slideshow.

  • The Terrestrial Ecological Unit Inventory Geospatial Toolkit (TEUI Toolkit) is an ArcGIS Add-In that assists users in mapping and analyzing landscapes using geospatial data. The Toolkit was designed to accelerate the TEUI mapping process but can also be used for a variety of other natural resource mapping efforts.
  • The TEUI Toolkit 5 has been completely redesigned and engineered to be faster and more robust than ever.
  • The Toolkit utilizes both continuous and discrete raster data (e.g., slope, aspect, elevation), polygon data (e.g., map units), and point data (e.g., soil pedon or vegetation plots) to calculate zonal statistics and display the results in both a tabular and graphical format.
  • The TEUI Toolkit was developed and is maintained by the USFS Geospatial Technology and Applications Center in Salt Lake City, UT.
  • The TEUI Toolkit can use any continuous or discrete raster data provided that it is numeric. Some examples include: slope, aspect, elevation, temperature, precipitation, and curvature. To use thematic data like geology, you will have to convert each symbol to a number. For analysis zones, any feature class type (i.e. polygon, point, line) or discrete raster data layer can be used.
  • Remember, if you are working on USFS land, the USFS Geospatial Technology and Applications Center can provide you geospatial data for your project area. Send an e-mail to sm.fs.teuiteam@usda.gov
  • The TEUI-Geospatial Toolkit can be used by anyone who wants to analyze and perform zonal statistics. Additional features for accelerating mapping such as sample design and data mining are currently under development.
  • Originally developed for the mapping and analysis of Terrestrial Ecological Units, the TEUI-Geospatial Toolkit can also be used to analyze or map any natural phenomena. Non-TEUI projects have included range analysis, watershed analysis, TES analysis, vegetation mapping, wildlife habitat, scenic areas, and soil mapping.

More FAQs
  • Terrestrial Ecological Unit Inventory (TEUI) is a hierarchical land survey and resource inventory system developed and used by the US Forest Service. TEUI products include ecological type descriptions, maps, interpretations that provide baseline information for forest plan revisions, timber and range management decisions, ecological and watershed assessments, and project level planning.
  • The TEUI Geospatial Toolkit is an ArcGIS mapping tool used to delineate landscape and analyze environmental characteristics using geospatial data. This tool complements traditional inventory methods by streamlining the collection and analysis of resource inventory information in a digital environment.
  • The TEUI Geospatial Toolkit can be found on this website by clicking on the Downloads section below.
  • The download file includes all the required software you will need to install the TEUI Geospatial Toolkit.
  • Windows XP or Windows 7 operating system
  • ArcGIS 10.0 and above
  • ArcGIS Spatial Analyst Extension
  • At least 8G free space to run the TEUI Geospatial Toolkit Statistics
  • The TEUI Geospatial Toolkit is for anyone who wants to calculate the descriptive statistics of raster data under analysis zones (feature class or raster) and view the results in an easy-to-read graphical or tabular format. While the TEUI Geospatial Toolkit was developed for the mapping and analysis of Terrestrial Ecological Units, the Toolkit can be used to analyze and/or map any polygon based data. Non-TEUI projects have included range analysis, watershed analysis, TES analysis, vegetation mapping, wildlife habitat, scenic areas, and soil mapping.
  • If you are working on USDA-Forest Service lands and are interested in obtaining data for your project, please contact sm.fs.teuiteam@usda.gov.
