Baldwin Lake

Baldwin Lake is a small alpine lake located to the west of Mount Antero (14,269 ft). The lake is home to native Cutthroat trout. A valid Colorado fishing license is required. Remember to check fishing regulations before fishing at any body of water. General Information

Baldwin Lake is a small alpine lake located at about 12,100 feet. This lake is ideal for a day trip or an overnight camping trip. The weather can change rapidly at high elevations so come prepared with appropriate clothing, rain gear and camping equipment.

Special use permits are required for all commercial activities including outfitting and guiding. For more information, contact the Salida Ranger District.
High-clearance 4-wheel drive is required.

Directions

From Nathrop, Colorado (located halfway between Buena Vista and Salida), travel west on County Road 162 for about 12 miles to the Baldwin Lake/Mt. Antero road (Forest Road 277). Turn left at the split onto FR 277 and begin traveling uphill for approximately 2.5 miles. FR 277 bears to the right and continues uphill on a rocky climb to the lake. Four-wheel drive or an ATV is a must for this rough road!
