Redbird Purchase
The Redbird Purchase has many recreational opportunities from hiking, fishing, picnicking, backpacking, horse riding and OHV trail riding. The area is most well-known for the Redbird Crest Trail which provides over 100 miles of trail for off-highway vehicle use.
The Redbird Purchase and the recreation site below are located on the Redbird Ranger District.
Complexes
The Redbird Crest Trail System provides nearly 100 miles of wooded trail for visitors to enjoy year round. The trail makes a loop that begins and ends near the Redbird Ranger District Office. Two inner loops and a connector trail to a private off-highway vehicle campground add to the recreational experience.
The trail system is developed for off-highway vehicle users, hikers, horseback riders and mountain bikers.
Bear Creek Trailhead is located off KY 66 in Clay County and provides southern access the Redbird Crest Trail.
Peabody Trailhead is located off KY 66 in Clay County and provides access to the Redbird Crest Trail.
Sugar Creek Trailhead is located off Forest Service Road 1600 in Leslie County and provides access to the Redbird Crest Trail.
The Gilbert Creek/Elisha Creek Loop provides an optional extension to the northeastern portion of the Redbird Crest Trail.
The 7-mile Left Fork of Elisha Creek Trail cuts across from the Redbird Crest Trail to the Gilbert Creek/Elisha Creek Loop allowing users to travel both sides of the Left F
The 5-mile Daniel Boone Trail Connector links the Redbird Crest Trail with the privately-owned Leslie County RV Park to the northeast of the Forest.
