Camping & Cabins

Extend your stay on the Ashley National Forest by camping at one of the campgrounds, dispersed camping, or staying in a yurt or historic guard station.  Many campgrounds are located near lakes and reservoirs and have boating and fishing opportunities. Other recreation opportunities are available near campgrounds such as trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding.

There are also trails and primitive roads that are open to ATV and motorcycle riding. Many campgrounds are located on or near designated scenic byways and backways, and an abundance are located on the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. 

Opportunities for camping include:

Campground Camping: Nothing beats the traditional site where you can pull up your car, set up your tent, and have the family cooking hot dogs and marshmallows over the fire! Find out more about the many campground choices on the Ashley National Forest

Dispersed Camping: This camping is for the more rugged individuals that are ready to pack in their own water, pack out their trash, and get a little closer to nature.

Group Camping: If you have a large group that wants to share the outdoor experience together, one of the Ashley's group camping sites is the way to go!

Cabin Rentals: If you're looking for a truly unique experience cabin rental opportunities on the Ashley include sites such as historic guard stations or yurts. Guard stations were built in the heart of the Forest to enable fire-fighting and other personnel quick access to areas. These stations were often built in the early part of the 1900s.

Campgrounds are available by reservation or on a first-come, first-served basis. For campground reservations please call Recreation.gov at 1-877-444-6777 or visit them online. For additional campground information please contact local forest service offices.

 

Can I use my Interagency Access Pass & Senior Pass?

  • The Interagency Access Pass and the Interagency Senior Pass provide you with a 50% discount on certain fees. It does not apply to fees for cabins, lookouts, group facilities, Pine Valley Recreation Area or to amenities such as electricity, water, sewer or other fees charged for prime sites.
  • You cannot use the America the Beautiful Annual Pass or any other pass for a discount.
  • The pass owner must be present AND occupy the site for the discount to apply. You may only use the pass discount for one site at a time.
