Natural Resources

The Forest Service has been dedicated to managing its resources for multiple uses since the creation of the agency in 1905. As an agency, we are charged with the task of providing sustainable multiple benefits to the public through proper management and use of natural resources. Our motto, “Caring for the Land and Serving People” captures the Forest Service mission perfectly.

Archaeology and Cultural Resources

Water, air, and soil are three natural resources that we cannot live without. Ashley National Forest employees strive to protect, maintain, and restore these valuable assets now and for future generations.

Well-managed rangelands provide forage for wildlife and domestic livestock in addition to quality water and recreational values.

Located in northeastern Utah, the High Uintas Wilderness comprises the wild core of the massive Uinta Mountains. Characterized by the highest peaks in Utah, countless lakes, and a unique alpine ecosystem, it is among the nation's most outstanding wilderness areas.

Our forests are managed for sustainable multiple uses and the benefits yield clean water, healthy ecosystems, sustainable supplies of wood, forage for livestock, supplies of energy and minerals, and superior places for the public to recreate.
