Cabin Rentals
Guard Stations located on the Ashley National Forest, Vernal Ranger District, were once used solely for administrative purposes. Before the advent of modern vehicles Forest rangers would spend their summers at these cabins to conduct work associated with forestry, rangeland monitoring, fire weather and lookouts, and much more. These cabins and their outbuildings housed employees, horses, and primitive vehicles. With the development of modern vehicles and road improvements these Guard Stations became used less frequently. Rather than abandon these sites, the Vernal Ranger District would like to keep this legacy alive by inviting Forest visitors to reserve these sites through the cabin rental program. Colton Guard Station, Paradise Guard Station, and Trout Creek Guard Station can be reserved through the National Recreation Reservation System (NRRS).
Yurts are cylindrical tents with dome roofs that are most commonly associated with the Mongol nomads of Siberia. Yurts are utilized by this culture because they are fairly easy to assemble, disassemble, and transport due to their unique lattice structure. The Ashley National Forest, Vernal Ranger District, has three modern yurts available for rent during the summer and winter seasons. Limber Flag Yurt, Grizzly Ridge Yurt, and Carter Military Trail Yurt can be reached by vehicle during the non-snow season from June 21 to October 21. During the snow season the Carter Military Trail Yurt is non-reservable since it remains open winter long to serve as a warming hut for snowmobilers out on the trails. Grizzly Ridge Yurt and Limber Flag Yurt are reservable during the snow season (approximately December 1 to April 30) and are limited to nonmotorized access for skiers and snowshoers. Yurts can be reserved through the National Recreation Reservation System (NRRS).
