The forested landscape of the Savannah River Site Forest is managed through a balanced multi-resource approach that prioritizes sustainable and healthy ecosystems.  The landscape is managed to maintain a stand mosaic of different trees species, age cohorts, and ecosystem types to ensure long-term forest health and landscape diversity. This diversity increases overall resiliency in recovering from natural disasters.  

Forest thinning and regeneration cuts promote healthy forested stands and a diversity of forest age classes across the landscape. Reforestation practices ensure desirable tree species are planted on the correct sites to promote thriving future forests and continued sustainable forest products harvesting.  

Guided by law, regulation, and agency policy, forest managers use timber sales, as well as other vegetation management techniques such as prescribed fire, to achieve objectives such as ecological restoration, habitat improvement, and productive and healthy forests
