Alvarado Trailhead

The Alvarado Trailhead is located in the Alvarado Campground and accesses the Rainbow Trail #1336. From the Rainbow Trail #1336, several trails access the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness, including the Cottonwood Trail #1344, Comanche Trail #1345, Goodwin Trail #1346 and Venable Trail #1347.  

The Rainbow Trail #1336 is a motorized trail open to ATV and motorcycle use and runs along the foot of the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness. Trails that lead into wilderness areas are open to nonmotorized/nonmechanized use only, and wilderness regulations apply.

No additional fee is charged for registered campers.

This site is open from early May to late September, dependent on weather conditions.

General Information

The Interagency Senior Pass and the Interagency Access Pass qualify for a 50% discount at concessionaire run campsites. The discount only applies to the fee for the site/vehicle physically occupied by the pass owner, not to any additional sites/vehicles occupied by members of the pass owner's party.

Day-use fee is charged for those not registered as campers.

The day use fee is $10 per vehicle.

Dogs must be on a leash at all times.
