Fishing

The fish, other aquatic species, and the habitat where they thrive hold tremendous value. There are over 220,000 miles of fishable streams and rivers and more than 10 million acres of fishable lakes and reservoirs on the National Forest and Grasslands. We help to improve and protect the habitat for many fish and other aquatic species with high conservation, cultural, and economic value.

Whether you’re looking for a bayou, fresh-water stream, or Scenic River, a myriad of rich fishing options await. Sport Fishing
Love entertainment? Enjoy the sport of fishing whether for fun or as part of a competition.

Fly Fishing
Enjoy a relaxed day fishing. Fly fishing lets you experience fishing using artificial flies to catch fish in fresh or salt water.

Ice Fishing
Like spending time outdoors during winter? Have a unique experience fishing on any spot of a lake or river without a boat.

Boat Fishing
Passion for adventure? Through boat fishing you will have the opportunity to find different species of fish.

Other Opportunities
With over 300 youth fishing events, and state-sponsored free fishing days, we partner with others to develop the next generation of aquatic resource stewards. Our partners offer events and opportunities to get out and fish in an area near you. We work in cooperation with state fish and wildlife agencies and with many partners, like the American Sportfishing Association, Congressional Sportsmen's FoundationFuture Angler FoundationRecreational Boating and Fishing FoundationTrout Unlimited, and Urban American Outdoors, to promote recreational fishing across the country.
