General Lake Prohibitions
The following acts are prohibited on National Forest System lands containing Cave Run Lake and Laurel River Lake:
- Operating any watercraft on impoundments on waterways administered by the DBNF in violation of rules, regulations or laws established by the Commonwealth of Kentucky to regulate said watercraft, excluding Lake Cumberland;
- Camping within 300 feet of the water’s edge of Cave Run Lake or Laurel River Lake except at sites designated for camping;
- Camping within 300 feet of any Road or Trail leading to the water’s edge of Cave Run Lake or Laurel River Lake except at sites designated for camping;
- Swimming or sun bathing within 100 feet of any boat launching ramp or courtesy boat dock;
- Using steel drums or barrels as floating devices;
- Storing or leaving a watercraft unattended overnight at a location not designated for overnight boat storage;
- Launching a motor boat at a site not designated for boat launching;
- Fishing from any boat ramp or courtesy dock;
- Landing of aircraft or dropping or picking up any material or person by means of an aircraft on waters of the DBNF.

Forest Order
Pursuant to the provisions of 16 U.S.C., Section 551, and Subpart B in Title 36 C.F.R. 261 as listed below, to provide for visitor safety, I am prohibiting the following acts:
Location: The portions of National Forest System lands containing Cave Run Lake in Bath, Menifee, Morgan and Rowan Counties, and Laurel River Lake in Laurel and Whitley Counties within the Daniel Boone National Forest (DBNF) in Kentucky. The area is further described in the attached map.
Effective Date: This Closure Order is in effect February 24, 2015 and continues until rescinded.
Prohibited Acts:
- Operating any watercraft on impoundments on waterways administered by the DBNF in violation of rules, regulations or laws established by the Commonwealth of Kentucky to regulate said watercraft, excluding Lake Cumberland (36 CFR 261.58(n));
- Camping within 300 feet of the water’s edge of Cave Run Lake or Laurel River Lake except at sites designated for camping (36 CFR 261.53(e));
- Camping within 300 feet of any Road or Trail leading to the water’s edge of Cave Run Lake or Laurel River Lake except at sites designated for camping (36 CFR
261.53(e)); - Swimming or sun bathing within 100 feet of any boat launching ramp or courtesy boat dock (36 CFR 261.58(k));
- Using steel drums or barrels as floating devices (36 CFR 261.58(k));
- Storing or leaving a watercraft unattended overnight at a location not designated for overnight boat storage (36 CFR 261.58(p));
- Launching a motor boat at a site not designated for boat launching (36 CFR261.58(r));
- Fishing from any boat ramp or courtesy dock (36 CFR 261.58(v));
- Landing of aircraft or dropping or picking up any material or person by means of an aircraft on waters of the DBNF (36 CFR 261.58(y)).
Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:
- Any Federal, State or Local Officer, or member of an organized rescue or firefighting force engaged in the performance of an official duty;
- Any authorized person engaged in official administrative duties regarding National Forest Administration;
- Persons with a permit specifically authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or omission.
These prohibitions are in addition to the general prohibitions in 36 CFR Part 261, Subpart A.

Violations of the above prohibition set forth are punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual and $10,000 for an organization or imprisonment for not more than six (6) months or both. See 16 U.S.C. 551, 18 U.S.C. 3559 and 3571.
