The Boundary Trail begins at the end of the G-O Road and follows old road bed along a ridge top before dropping down to Elk Valley. Going north from the end of the road in Elk Valley, watch for a wooden trail sign high in a tree to your left marking the start of the trail. Approximately 1.5 miles from the trailhead the trail descends very steeply to a meadow crossing, then ascends extremely steeply to a ridge south of Sawtooth Mountain. Here, the trail crosses an area burned in a wildfire several years ago. There are a number of down trees, and the trail can be indistinct in some places. The footing can be difficult on steep slopes.
