National Silviculture Workshop
Since 1989, the National Silviculture Workshop has been held biennially as a forum for sharing silvicultural advances among Forest Service field foresters and research scientists. In recent years, research scientists from universities, as well other federal and state agencies have also participated.
2024 National Silviculture Workshop
The next biennial workshop is scheduled for July 16-18, 2024, at the Greater Tacoma Convention Center, Tacoma, Washington. The Washington Office Forest Management, Rangelands Management and Vegetation Ecology, the Washington Office Sustainable Forest Management Research, the Pacific Northwest Region, and the Pacific Northwest Research Station are jointly hosting the workshop.
The theme for this workshop is “Fostering Resilient Stands and Landscapes with Innovative Silviculture.” This workshop will bring together Forest Service field foresters, research scientists and individuals from universities to share silvicultural advances. The workshop includes field tours.

Proceedings of the 2019 National Silviculture Workshop - The 2019 National Silviculture Workshop was May 21-23, 2019, in Bemidji, Minnesota. Washington Office Forest Management, Rangelands Management, and Vegetation Ecology; Washington Office Sustainable Forest Management Research; and the Eastern Region and the Northern Research Station jointly hosted the workshop. The theme for this workshop was “Forest Management-Research Partnerships.
The 2017 National Silviculture Workshop occurred July 18-20, 2017, in Flagstaff, Arizona. The Washington Office Forest Management, Washington Office Sustainable Forest Management Research, Southwestern Region, and the Rocky Mountain Research Station jointly hosted the workshop. The theme for this workshop was "Silviculture: The Foundation for Restoration, Resilience, and Climate Adaptation."
Proceedings of the 2015 National Silviculture Workshop - Journal of Forestry, Volume 115, Number 3. This special issue of the Journal of Forestry features papers presented at the 2015 NSW, held in conjunction with the 2015 SAF National Convention in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This marks the second time the NSW has been held in conjunction with the national convention.
Proceedings of the 2013 National Silviculture Workshop - Journal of Forestry, Volume 112, Number 5. This special issue of the Journal of Forestry features papers presented at the 2015 National Silviculture Workshop (NSW), held in conjunction with the 2015 of the Society of American Foresters (SAF) National Convention in Charleston, South Carolina. This marks the first time the NSW was held in conjunction with the national convention.
