Up Up 40-Foot Lookout Tower

This lookout is a 40-foot wooden tower perched on a beautiful rock pinnacle. A hiking trail is available for those that wish to explore the Eagle Peak roadless area. The lookouthas a fantastic vista for views of the St. Regis River drainage and the high alpine country.

General Information
General Notes: Accommodations include propane lights and a wall-mounted heater. There are no cooking facilities or refrigeration. At the base of the tower is a fire pit with grill. A twin bed with mattress and cover is available. Two more people may occupy tower and bring sleeping bags or camp at ground level. You can drive directly to the tower.Directions: Up-Up 40' Lookout Tower is located 80 miles west of Missoula on I-90 Ward Creek Exit 26. Exit 26 is only accessable from I-90 eastbound. If traveling west bound go to the Drexel exit 25 and return eastbound. Travel on road 889 for 3.2 miles, turn right on road 3816 and travel 14 miles to Up Up Lookout.

Cabin Rentals
This lookout is a 40-foot wooden tower built in the 1930s and was used as a fire lookout tower. With the use of aircraft for fire detection, less lookouts have been staffed in recent years and many converted to cabin rentals. Day Hiking
The Up Up Ridge Trail #250 takes you into the spectacular Ward-Eagle Roadless Area which contains massive rock outcrops and numerous pristine high alpine lakes, all of which offer different environmental settings. Highlights of the trail include Eagle Peak at 7300 feet in elevation. The trail leads all the way to the Idaho stateline near Ward Peak.Difficulty Level: | Difficult |
