Grangeville Smokejumpers

Smokejumper

More than 9,000 fire jumps have been made out of Grangeville since the establishment of smokejumper operations in 1951. More than 2,500 fires have been staffed by aerial delivery of smokejumpers. In busy years, the base has delivered smokejumpers to well over 100 fires with the average number of smokejumpers per fire averaging between 3 and 4.

The Grangeville Smokejumpers are committed to providing a professional level of fire management to public lands throughout the nation. Since 1951, the Grangeville Smokejumpers have provided aerially delivered firefighters to wildfires across the United States. Smokejumpers specialize in the use of parachutes and fixed-wing aircraft as a means for rapid deployment of resources to remote locations. While smokejumping and fire management is their specialty, the jumpers have a wide range of skills and backgrounds that offer a diverse and highly adaptable organization that can fill any niche.
