Bear Lake Trail - INHT
Bear Lake Trail is a segment of the longer Iditarod National Historic Trail (INHT). This trail is moderate difficulty and is 7.5 miles (one way). The best season for use is June - October. It has many steep up and down grades and is recommended for hiking, biking, or snowshoe only. Dense tree canopy cover, steep grades and sharp turns make this trail difficult to travel in winter.

Trail Condition: Dense tree canopy cover, steep grades and sharp turns make this trail difficult to travel in the winter. With good snow conditions this trail provides snowmachiners access to Snow River at mile 11.4 (winter travel across Bear Lake).
Getting there: North access point is mile 12 of the Seward Hwy on the east side of the road, just north of railroad overpass. South access point is at mile 2.1 of Nash Road. Turn east at mile 3.2 Seward Highway onto Nash Road.
The south access point is at the end Bear Lake Road - turn east at mile 6 of the Seward Highway. North access is at mile 12 of the Seward Highway on the east side just north of the railroad overpass. This trail hooks up with the Iditarod Meridian Lake trail. to access, cross the highway and travel south down the road 800'
NOTE: The trail has seasonal closures for saddle/pack stock and motorized vehicles. Inquire at a local ranger office for more information.
