Public notice for IRT assistance
The USDA Forest Service intends to solicit assistance from military units through the Innovative Readiness Training (IRT) Program under the Military Assistance Program in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs.
The proposed project is planned for the Forest Service infrastructure and facilities on the Cordova Ranger District at the Childs Glacier Recreation Site. Work may include deferred site maintenance, selective decommissioning to improve safety, and other improvements to enable better remote site functionality.
Local contractors, labor union organizations or private contractors who have questions, or who wish to voice opposition to this action may contact Steve Namitz, Cordova District Ranger, at steven.namitz@usda.gov or 907-424-7661, no later than 14 days after publication of this notice, June 3, 2026.
Those who do not file their comments within that timeframe will be considered to have waived their objections to the participation of the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs in this project.
