This trail has not been maintained for many years. Trail is not suitable for stock. Breitenbush River ford is potentially dangerous. Use caution.

This trail is in an area impacted by the Beachie Creek and Lionshead Fires. Before visiting areas affected by wildfire, make sure to review the 4 Steps for Safety for recreating in burned areas.

General Information

$5/vehicle/day or a valid recreation pass. No payment accepted onsite.

The Crag Trail enters the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness. Wilderness permits are required. To determine which kind of Wilderness Permit you need, please follow the link to the trailhead you plan on using to access this trail: South Breitenbush Trailhead:

Cheat Creek Trailhead:

  • Overnight Use: Central Cascades Wilderness Permit between June 15 and October 15.
  • Day-Use: Free, self-issue Wilderness Permit (available at the trailhead) between June 15 and October 15.

Directions

From Detroit, Oregon, turn left onto Breitenbush Road (Highway 46), travel for 14 miles, turn right onto Forest Road 4685. Travel for 5 miles, just before the first major 180 degree turn in the road you'll see the trailhead on the right.
