Military Operations Area Closure on Naches Ranger District
An area closure is in effect in the vicinity of Bumping Lake and a portion of the William O. Douglas Wilderness where military rescue and recovery operations are occurring and staging for transport of debris. Staging for these operations will occur at the Tieton Airstrip adjacent to the Peninsula Campground.

Military Recovery Operations Area Closure
Closure Order: 06-17-08-25-24
Pursuant to 16 USC § 551 and 36 CFR § 261.50(a) and (b), and to provide for public health & safety inlcuding military personnel, the following acts are prohibited within the Naches Ranger District of the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. This Order is effective August 25, 2025, and will remain in effect through October 31, 2025, unless rescinded sooner.
PROHIBITIONS:
1.Entering into or being upon National Forest System lands, as described below and displayed on the attached map, Exhibit A [36 CFR § 261.53(e)].
2.Being on a National Forest System trail, as described below and displayed on the attached map, Exhibit A [36 CFR § 261.55(a)].
3.Being on a National Forest System Road as described below and displayed on the attached map, Exhibit A [36 CFR § 261.54(e)].
4.Use of vehicle off of National Forest System Roads as described below and displayed on the attached map, Exhibit A [36 CFR § 261.56].
CLOSURE AREA DESCRIPTION:
The Military Operations Emergency Closure Area is described as:
All lands within T15 N, R12 E, Sections 26, 27, 28, 33, 34, 35; T14 N, R12 E,. Sections 2 & 3; T14 N, R12 E, Sections 4, 9, 10, that are north of Forest Service Trail 1105 (Indian Creek). Additionally, all of Forest Service Trail 979 (Pear Butte Trail) from the trailhead on Forest Service Road 1808 to its intersection with Forest Service Trail 1148 (Pear Loop). Forest Service Trail 1105 will remain open for travel along the closure area.
AND
Peninsula Campground and Rimrock Boat Launch described as T13 N, R13 E, Sections 1, 12; T13 N, R14 E, Sections 6 & 7.

EXEMPTIONS:
Pursuant to 36 CFR § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:
1. Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire-fighting force in the performance of an official duty.
2. Persons with Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 (Permit for Use of Roads, Trails, or Areas Restricted by Regulation Order), specifically exempting them from this Order.
These prohibitions are in addition to the general prohibitions in 36 CFR Part 261, Subpart A.
Violations of these prohibitions are punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000.00 for an individual or $10,000.00 for a corporation, or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both. (16 USC § 551; 18 USC §§ 3551, 3571, and 3581.)
