  • High Rock Trail # 266, Lookout Area, and Trailhead Closure Order

    The High Rock Lookout, as well as the NFS Trail #266 (High Rock Trail), and the High Rock Trailhead parking area on the Cowlitz Valley Ranger District within Lewis County, WA will be closed to best protect the public and personnel during construction travel and operations in a rugged and steep location (36 CFR § 261.53(e), 36 CFR § 261.55(a), 36 CFR § 261.58(b)(g)). The closure area will go into effect from September 15, through to November 1, 2025, unless rescinded sooner. 

    The areas that will be closed are:

    • (1) Within 150 feet of the High Rock Lookout foundation and structure.
    • (2) The developed Trailhead parking site, NFS Trail #266 High Rock Trail in its entirety. 

    The order provides exceptions for persons with Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 (Permit for Use of Roads, Trails, or Areas Restricted by Regulation Order) specifically exempting them from the order; any Federal, State, or local official or member of an organized rescue or firefighting force in the performance of an official duty; and people traveling for evacuation purposes.
