The Forest Service follows NEPA regulations issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Under this rule, Forest Service officials determine which proposed projects are shared for public input.

The agency no longer issues a schedule of proposed actions (SOPA) report. Below is the current list of proposed projects available for review—your opportunity to learn more, share feedback, and stay engaged in decisions that shape the future of our public lands.

Tahoe National Forest Projects

Create healthy forest stands which exhibit resilience to wildfire, insects, disease, and changing climactic conditions. Restore meadow habitat through improved hydrologic function, reconnection of floodplains, stream channel restorations actions.

Boreal-Woodward Tahoe Mountain Bike Trail Development. Auburn Ski Club is proposing the addition of summer use of lift serviced mountain biking.

Construction, installation, operation, use, and maintenance of buried fiber optic cable in the California Department of Transportation's right-of-way along Interstate 80 for approximately 43,653 feet.

Planned creation of a year-round multi-use recreation facility on the crest of the Sierras at Donner Summit.

Install or affix to existing structures two fire detection cameras and associated solar panels and batteries. Includes installation of four concrete anchors.

Implement a combination of treatments to construct fuel breaks and remove hazard trees across approximately 3,000 acres of NFS lands along 35 miles of roads throughout the YRRD to mitigate the risk of wildfire to protect nearby communities.

Mechanical thinning and fuels reduction on approximately 1,252 acres of National Forest System land adjacent to the community of Greene Acres in Sierra County, California.

The proposed action includes constructing 2.17 miles of new equestrian and pedestrian trail, upgrading 0.6 miles of existing user created trails to official system trails, and decommissioning 0.27 miles of user created trails. The project aims to reduce crowding and decrease user conflicts.

Installation of underground fiber optic cable to be buried under the pavement within the Highway 89 Right of Way Corridor through Special Use Permit.

Tahoe NF will authorize a 0.5 mile pipeline encroachment due to the acquisition of Van Norden Meadow. The Humboldt-Toiyabe and Tahoe NFs will also approve a new operating plan for the entirety of the pipeline. Actions are administrative only.

Biomass; Forest Vegetation Improvements; Timber Sale; Reforestation; Travel Management.

Improve and restore forest health and resilience, reduce the risk of high-severity wildfire, protect and secure water supplies, and protect communities from the effects of high-severity wildfire on approximately 210,000 acres of National Forest Land. Multiple decisions to result from one EIS.

The installation of seven new #7 boxes (WLs 13, 17, 19, 23, 25, 29, and 31) and replacement of four existing #5 boxes with new #7 boxes (WLs 11, 15, 21, 27) will require 11 off-pavement excavations with 11 adjacent work areas.

Temporary residential use of Granite Flat Campground for winter season to be used for Palisades Tahoe Resort employee housing.

Bear Yuba Land Trust would be hiring a contractor to construct a bridge over the Jordan Creek spillway and the Forest Service would be amending a trail easement with PG&E to include the new bridge and Pioneer Trail spur to the northeast.

Amend the Tahoe National Forest Land and Resources Management Plan to include plan components that specify where timber management activities can occur based on steeper slopes using tethered logging systems.

Amend Foresthill PUD's Special Use Permit for Sugar Pine Reservoir for installation of radial gates to increase water storage capacity (EIS). This will be a joint analysis with the state project to extend the PUD's water right permit (EIR).

T-Mobile is installing a generator on Hwy 89S below Goose Meadows CG to obtain backup power and provide cell service in the event of an emergency such as wildfire.

Proposed designation of select trails as open to Class 1 E-Bikes within Tahoe National Forest.

Designating over-snow vehicle (OSV) use on National Forest System roads and trails and in areas on National Forest System lands as allowed, restricted, or prohibited. Identifying where grooming for OSV use would be conducted
