New Fork Lake Dam Project
New Fork Lake Irrigation District has proposed to rehabilitate the New Fork Lake Dam at current location to meet statewide safety requirements and increase water storage to improve the availability of water to downstream users. Modifications proposed to address the existing spillway safety inadequacies include: raising the dam embankment from 2.9 to 7.9 feet on the abutments to Elevation 7836.1, moving the bridge downstream to prevent flow obstruction, and removing the spillway bridge piers for one 60-foot wide spillway crest. The combination of increased water surface and weir length would enable the Potential Maximum Flood to be passed with 1 foot of residual freeboard. The proposed action would also provide additional storage for the New Fork Irrigation District. Recreation access to the area would be maintained on an existing detour route throughout the length of reconstruction project.
