Occupancy and Use

PROHIBITIONS:

Pursuant to Title 36 CFR 261.50 (a) and (b) the following acts are prohibited in the areas described in this Order, all within the Pinedale Ranger District, Bridger-Teton National Forest.

  1. Camping in restricted areas within the Bridger Wilderness. 36 CFR 261.58(e)

     

  2. Entering or being in the Bridger Wilderness without a Group Use Visitor Permit or Visitor Stock Permit when required. 36 CFR 261.57(a)

     

  3. Riding, hitching, tethering, or hobbling of a horse or other saddle or pack animal in violation of posted instructions. 36CFR 261.58(aa}

     

  4. Building, maintaining, attending, or using an open fire above timberline. 36 CFR 261.52(a)

 

  1. Disposing of debris, garbage, or other waste in violation of posted instructions. 36CFR 261.57(g)

 

  1. Possessing, storing, or transporting any part of a tree or plant in the form of hay or straw in the Bridger Wilderness. 36CFR 261.58(t)

EXEMPTIONS:

Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50 (e) the following persons are exempt from this Order:

  1. Persons with a permit specifically exempting them from the effect of this Order.

     

  2. Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of an official duty.

AREA DESCRIBED:

The area affected by the above Order is all National Forest System Land within the Bridger Wilderness.

  1. Camping is prohibited within 200 feet of any lake or designated trail, and within 100 feet of streams, creeks, or springs. 

     

  2. Building, maintaining, attending, or using an open fire above timberline or within 200 feet of any lake or designated trail, and within 100 feet of streams, creeks, or springs.

     

  3. Organized groups (Scouts, church groups, clubs, etc.) are prohibited from occupying the Bridger Wilderness without a Group Use Visitor Permit. Overnight campers with pack and saddle stock are prohibited from occupying the Bridger Wilderness without a Visitor Stock Permit.

     

  4. Tying pack or saddle stock to trees in such a manner that causes injury or damage to any tree, vegetation, or soil is prohibited.

     

  5. Disposing of debris, garbage, or other waste by leaving, burying, or burning it inside the Bridger Wilderness is prohibited.

The above-described area is within the proclaimed and administrative boundaries of the Pinedale Ranger District, Bridger-Teton National Forest, Sublette and Fremont Counties, Wyoming.

PURPOSE:

To protect the fragile ecosystem of the Bridger Wilderness, maintain its wilderness character, and provide all wilderness visitors a maximum use and availability of campsites on an equal basis.

DEFINITION:

Camping means the temporary use of National Forest System lands for the purpose of overnight occupancy without a permanently fixed structure.

IMPLEMENTATION:

  1. This Order will be in effect when signed and shall remain in effect until rescinded.

     

  2. Any violation of this prohibition is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000.00 for individuals, and $10,000.00 for organizations and/or imprisonment for not more than six (6) months. [Title 16 USC 551, Title 18 USC 357l(b)(6), Title 18 USC 3581 (b)(7)].

     

  3. Order supersedes any previous orders prohibiting the same acts covered by this Order.
