South Slope Western Uinta Mountains
Often deemed as the gateway to the High Uinta Wilderness, the South Slope of the Western Uinta Mountains recreation region is located on the Duchesne/Roosevelt Ranger District. The region is adjacent to the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest on the west, the High Uinta Wilderness to the north, and the Vernal Ranger District to the east.
General Information
The South Slope of the western Uinta Mountains not only provides Wilderness access, but also many dispersed and developed recreation opportunities. The region is home to Moon Lake recreation complex, Rock Creek visitor center, numerous campgrounds, and even an opportunity to rent and stay in the historic Uinta Guard Station cabin.
Recreation opportunities are abundant and include fishing, hiking, horseback riding, boating, hunting, scenic viewing, and OHV riding just to name a few!
