South Slope Eastern Uinta Mountains

The South Slope of the Eastern Uinta Mountains recreation region is located primarily in the mountains north of Vernal, Utah and on the Vernal Ranger District. The region contains the Ashely Karst National Recreation and Geologic Area, known for its limestone karst formations and stunning views of Ashely Gorge.  The landscape varies from sagebrush meadows, aspen, and lodgepole forest with deep canyons separating sections of the region.  

Abundant opportunities for dispersed recreation exist, including camping, OHV riding, hunting, fishing, and scenic viewing.  There also exist opportunities for camping at several developed campgrounds, overnight stays at any of three historic guard stations and two yurts.
