Fire Repair Suppression Work Along Arizona National Scenic Trail Resumes

CURRENT SITUATION: After three days of high winds, fire personnel started cutting hazard trees along the Arizona National Scenic Trail and continue to flag hazard trees located within the National Park.

Hauling hazard trees from Cape Royal and Imperial Point Roads has been completed while hauling slash along these roads will continue.

Crews are cutting, skidding, processing and decking hazardous trees on Forest Service (FS) Road 610, with hauling expected to start within the next few days. Hauling hazard trees on FS Road 611 continues.

Chipping along Highway 67 continues every day and this material is being used to create waddles within the National Park to prevent flooding and are being stored for future use.

Fire personnel in the Initial Attack (IA) group will continue to assist with fire suppression repair work and be ready to respond to any new incidents within the closure area or as requested by hosting units.

As a reminder, fuelwood located within closure areas are not available to the public at this time.

WEATHER: Dry conditions and seasonable temperatures will remain through midweek with high temperatures near 70 degrees and how temperatures dropping into the 30’s.
