Sapphire Point North Overlook and parking closed through Nov. 15
The popular Sapphire Point North Overlook and parking area above Dillon Reservoir will be closed through Nov. 15 for public safety while much needed maintenance is completed.
The recreation path will remain open. Trail users should be cautious and cyclists are asked to dismount as they travel through the area. The South Overlook and trail may be closed intermittently as well.
Crews will construct a new overlook on the north side of the trail, as well as widen the trail and lessen its grade to make it more accessible. Additional benches, pullout sites and interpretive signage will be installed.
Earlier this year crews renovated the parking lot, including maintenance, adding event parking spaces, and updating traffic flow entering the parking area from Swan Mountain Road.
Sapphire Point Overlook is the most-reserved recreation site on the Dillon Ranger District, with 625 reservations in the last year alone. It is particularly popular for small weddings, with multiple bookings common on a single day.
Sapphire Point is a multi-use site with a half-mile loop trail and two overlook sites. It remains open to the general public during event reservations.
