Turkey Trail

This 10.5-mile trail extends between Cottonwood Picnic Area and 1 mile east of County Road 16. The part of the trail open for motorized vehicles is shown on the Cimarron National Grassland's Motor Vehicle Use Map as Forest Service Road 798.B, ending at the Cimarron Recreation Area. At this point, it continues as the walking trail, East Turkey Trail #1852. This wooded trail has great birdwatching and wildlife viewing opportunities.

General Information

Commercial outfitter and guides required to have a special use permit. Fees vary.

Drinking water is available at Cottonwood Picnic Area and Cimarron Recreation Area. It is best to carry water.

Motorized vehicles are permitted from Cottonwood Picnic Area to Cimarron Recreation Area. The remainder of the trail is for nonmotorized travel only.

Parking

Parking is available at Cottonwood Picnic Area and Cimarron Recreation Area.

Directions

Trail begins at the far east end of the Cottonwood Picnic Area and is located south of the Cimarron River just east of State Highway 27.
