Webinar: Battery-powered chainsaw evaluation

October 23, 2023

A sawyer uses a battery-powered chainsaw to cut through a log while an electronic engineer stands by to measure sound levels.
Ted Etter, electronic engineer for the National Technology and Development Program, measures the sound levels of a battery-powered chainsaw by using a sound level meter while a sawyer makes a test cut through a log. Sound lever meters measure the decibels of sound produced from the machine, one of the many criteria that NTDP used to evaluate battery-powered chainsaws. WASHINGTON, DC—Battery-powered chainsaws have become more available over the past several years. Availability, combined with rapid improvements in battery technology, have U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service employees curious about the efficiency of this technology for their day-to-day work.

Please join the National Technology and Development Program for an upcoming webinar on battery-powered chainsaws. Program staff are evaluating battery-powered chainsaws in order to better understand these tools. Areas of interest include cutting performance, battery performance, noise, safety, cost, maintenance, user experience and other considerations.

National Technology and Development Program project manager Damien Hoffman will summarize the evaluation of seven different battery-powered chainsaws.
