Remembering Sean Haile

April 26, 2024

Headshot of a man, smiling, berded, wearing a ballcap. Behind him the edge of a body of water, lined with grass patches, and a cloudy, bright horizon further in the distance

Sean Haile, a dedicated federal employee for 25 years, passed away on April 17 after an unexpected and brief illness. Sean most recently served as a geospatial solutions architect for the Chief Technology Office, a program area inside the Forest Service Chief Information Office.

Sean started his career with the Fish and Wildlife Service on the East Coast, then moved to Utah to work seasonally on invasive species treatments for the National Park Service. His career eventually took him to the Bureau of Land Management where he worked for several years as a geospatial information systems specialist. In 2010, he became a member of a BLM mobile GIS team. He continued his career in BLM geospatial, eventually working up to the Geospatial Services Division of BLM’s National Operations Center until joining the Forest Service CIO in 2023.

Sean’s colleagues knew him as a steadfast, rock-solid teammate. But above all, Sean was an extraordinary friend, a loving husband and a phenomenal father who loved his family, music and was an avid fan of both the Baltimore Ravens and the Orioles. Even in his passing, Sean continued to touch other lives as an organ donor, whose lungs, liver and kidneys all went to recipients in need. His heart was donated for research.

Sean is survived by his wife, a son and daughter, his parents, two sisters and many extended family members and friends. He is deeply missed by all those who knew him.
