On Feb. 7, four northern Arizona Forest Service law enforcement officers were cross-commissioned with the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, illustrating the strong partnerships between local and Forest Service law enforcement entities.

Northern Arizona Patrol Captain Jon Nelson, Red Rock Ranger District LEO Krista Kuhn and Bradshaw Ranger District LEOs Andy Mullinnix and Tucker Wood received the oath of office for state peace officer with YCSO. The term of the certification is for one year and allows federal peace officers the capability to work with YCSO officers when requested.

Deputies of YCSO work very closely with Forest Service LEOs due to the large amount of federal forest land in Yavapai County. When necessary, Forest Service LEOs provide assistance to YCSO forest patrol details regarding criminal investigations on forest land, search and rescue missions and directed patrol efforts to address specific concerns on these lands.

“I am again very pleased to provide the opportunity for cross-certification to our line-level federal partners,” Sheriff Scott Mascher said. “We enjoy a great partnership with the Forest Service in managing concerns on forest lands, criminal investigations, and our many search and rescues throughout the year.”
