USFS training aids cross-border reforestation efforts on island of Hispaniola

March 3, 2017

Jeremy Pinto, Rocky Mountain Research Station tribal nursery specialist, and Anthony Davis, Oregon State University researcher, co-led a training on nursery management and seedling care at the Dominican Republic’s National Seed Lab for Native and Endemic Species earlier this week.

Trainees from non-governmental organizations and local communities from Haiti and Dominican Republic as well as the Ministry of the Environment of the Dominican Republic learned about seedling care, nursery management and improving seedling survival rates. This Forest Service-supported program aims to improve cross-border collaboration for reforestation and natural resource management on the island of Hispaniola.

This training event was facilitated by International Programs.
