Seward Ranger District

The Eastern Kenai Peninsula

Trails to the high country beckon, climbing from forest shadows to open tundra. An alpine lake mirrors snowy peaks, hiding shimmering grayling and trout in its depths.

The Seward Ranger District  sits on the Eastern Kenai Peninsula and is readily accessible from the Seward Highway skirts Turnagain Arm, a 50-mile long fiord with extreme tides and “quick sand” mudflats.

Stop and stretch your legs on one of the many trails along the highway. Or use them as a starting point for your personal backcountry adventure. Bring a tent and keep your eyes open for the perfect spot to pitch it.

Come & Stay A While

The Seward District is home to most of the Chugach National Forest’s campgrounds and cabins and they are waiting for you. Most require a reservation, but you can stay for a night or a week.

Sport fishing on the Kenai Peninsula is an irresistible attraction. The Russian River draws tens of thousands of salmon anglers. Want a little more peace and quiet? Get a map, some advice and explore the backcountry streams and lakes for grayling and trout.

Outfitter/guides offer almost any kind of outdoor adventure—a horseback journey to the high country, thrilling whitewater rafting, fly fishing on a secluded stream, or an afternoon hike to photograph wildflowers.

Wherever your wanderings take you, enjoy creating your special memories to take home. Respect nature with its wildlife, plants, fish, and beautiful landscapes, and the Kenai Peninsula will welcome you back.
