Travel delays will begin in April due to Icicle Road repair project

Release Date: March 21st, 2025

Leavenworth, WA (March  21, 2025) — Campers and hikers making plans to visit the Icicle River corridor recreation area should prepare for substantial travel delays due to an upcoming road repair project on the Icicle Road #7600 that will begin April 7 and run through the end of June.

Road repair and rockfall mitigation work will be taking place along the section of the road between mileposts 4 and 5, from about the Snow Lakes Trailhead up to Eightmile Campground, approximately 5 miles southwest of Leavenworth, WA.

The road will be closed to all non-emergency vehicles from Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The road will be open to alternating one-way traffic on weekdays from noon to 1 p.m. The road will be open overnight weekdays between 5 p.m. and 8 a.m., and all-day on weekends. Travelers should expect up to 20-minute delays when the road is open.

“It’s always best to check for alerts before you go on the Forest webpage or by calling the district office,” said Wenatchee River District Ranger Erica Taecker. “The weekday closure will complicate travel to and from several trailheads, campgrounds, and private property in the Icicle River corridor.”

The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest is working with the Federal Highways Administration who are funding and implementing the contract for the repairs.  For more information about this project, please contact the Wenatchee River Ranger District, phone (509) 548-2550.
