Maps
The Boise National Forest Visitor Map can be purchased from the USGS website or at any of our office locations. The latest version is from 2018 and is printed on a plastic, waterproof material. Unfolded it is 36 inches tall and 48 inches wide.

Forest Visitor Maps are also available on mobile technology through the Avenza Map Store. These maps DO NOT show all existing Forest Service roads. For a map that shows the most up to date road and motorized trail information see the information on obtaining Motor Vehicle Use Maps.
The Avenza PDF Maps Application is free of charge and available for most Apple, Android and Windows Phone Operating System products. The application can be downloaded directly to mobile devices through iTunes or Play Store. Maps are geo-referenced, meaning when viewed on a mobile device and will a clear view of the sky, they will show your location on the map using GPS technology even if you are out of cell coverage.
A Motorized Vehicle Use Map (MVUM) is a legal document that shows which roads and trails are open to public motor vehicle use. If a road or trail does not appear on the map, it means that it is not open to public motor vehicular use.
The MVUM is a black and white map with no topographic features. It is best used with a Forest Visitor Map or other detailed map. The MVUM will be updated as needed to correct mapping errors or discrepancies and update travel decisions.
If you plan on camping, driving off-highway vehicles, hunting, or exploring the backcountry; please make sure you review the appropriate MVUM to know which routes are open to motor vehicle use. For more information, please visit MVUM Frequently Asked Questions and KNOW BEFORE YOU GO!
