Conejos Region
The southern part of the Rio Grande National Forest is known as the Conejos Peak Ranger District. With a mix of Colorado and New Mexican culture the region is sure to entice visitors to consider the ancestral people that walked this land for thousands of years. Explore the area at your own risk though. “They” say that too much beauty and fun is not healthy!
From Greenie Mountain south of Monte Vista, the region's east side extends due south through the Mogote area all the way to the state line and border with the Carson National Forest. The state line brings the southern boundary west to the Cumbres Pass area near Chama New Mexico. Follow the Forest boundary on the west going north up through Chama Basin and along the Continental Divide to Elwood Pass then back east along the Ranger District boundary to Greenie Mountain.
