Clear Lake Education Center
A visit to Clear Lake Education Center is a step back in time. The Civilian Conservation Corps built the camp in the late 1930's. The facilities blend a rustic feel with modern conveniences. The eight dormitory style cabins are nestled in a northern hardwoods forest adjacent to Clear Lake. Facilities can accommodate up to 86 people.
Facilities include:
- Eight heated cabins that sleep 12 people. (Bedding is not supplied)
- Furnished classroom building, includes fireplace, tables, chairs and projection screen.
- Dining Hall and kitchen includes gas stove, walk in refrigerator, and commercial dishwasher.
- Two modern restrooms, each with handicap accessible showers
Recreational opportunities include:
- Amphitheater with fire ring
- Canoe rentals
- Volleyball court
- Baseball diamond
- Two-mile trail around Clear Lake
- Swimming area and dock
Facility Rentals
When Clear Lake Education Center is not being used for outdoor education camps, others can rent the facilities. During the summer and fall, community organizations, churches, scouts, and families use Clear Lake Education Center for camps, retreats and meetings. Call for availability and rental fees.
Public Days - Take a Tour
Throughout the year, the Clear Lake Education and Stewards Group host Public Days where everyone is invited to take a tour of the Education Center and Clear Lake and have fun trying some of the recreation programs that are available. Visit their website for upcoming dates.
The camp is located near Shingleton, Michigan in the middle of the Hiawatha National Forest in Michigan's beautiful Upper Peninsula.
