To report a wildfire

Call 9-1-1 

  • Be ready to provide your name and phone number in case the dispatcher needs to call you back.
  • Provide your location as specifically as possible. Refer to Forest Road numbers, estimated mileage from main road intersections and/or geographic landmarks.
  • Describe what you see and if any people and vehicles are in the area.
  • Don’t put yourself at risk. You’ve done your civic duty by reporting the fire. Leave the fire-fighting to the professionals and move a safe distance away.

Current Fire Weather

The fire danger rating is derived by applying local observations of current or predicted conditions of fuel, weather, and topographic factors to a set of complex science-based equations. These calculations result in a numeric scaling of the potential over a large area for fires to ignite, spread, and require fire suppression action.

Updates to the Michigan DNR Burn Permit Management System are made daily at 10:00 am eastern.

If you are looking for a burn permit you must check the MI-DNR Burn Permit website for conditions and to obtain a burning permit.
