  • Red Mountain Fire Closure Area on the Darrington Ranger District

    Red Mountain Fire closes North Fork Sauk River Road (FSR 49) at mile post 3 and connected sites.  The closure includes the Bald Eagle Trailhead (Bald Eagle Trail 650), North Fork Sauk Trailhead (North Fork Sauk Trail 649, Red Mountain Trail 651, Pilot Ridge Trail 652, Johson Mountain Trail 652.2), Sloan Peak Trailhead (Sloan Peak Trail 648), FSR 4920, and FSR 4950.

Forest Order

Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 CFR § 261.50(a) and (b), to provide for public and employee safety, the following acts are prohibited within the Darrington Ranger District of the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest as described below and shown in Exhibit A. This order will be effective from September 4, 2025 through October 31, 2025, unless rescinded sooner. 

PROHIBITION: 

  1. Being on a National Forest System Trail [36 CFR § 261.55(a)].
  2. Being on a National Forest System Road [36 CFR § 261.54(e)].
  3. Entering or using a developed recreation site or portion thereof [36 CFR § 261.58(b)]. 

CLOSURE AREA DESCRIPTION: 

Forest System Road #49 (Sloan Creek Road), to include the Sloan Peak Trailhead and North Fork Sauk Trailhead, beginning at the Lost Creek Bridge and continuing southeast to its terminus, located within T30N, R12E; Sections 18, 17, 20, 29 & 32, and T29N, R12E; Sections PB41, PB40, UP9, UP10, UP15, UP16, and UP8, as shown in Exhibit A. 

The entirety of Forest System Road #4920 (Cadet Creek Road), to include the Bald Eagle Trailhead, beginning at its origin, at the intersection with Forest System Road #49 (Sloan Creek Road) and continuing south to its terminus at Bald Eagle Trailhead, located within T29N, R12E; Section PB41, as shown in Exhibit A. 

The entirety of Forest System Road #4950 (Bowser Creek Road), beginning at its origin, at the intersection with Forest System Road #49 (Sloan Creek Road), and continuing to its terminus, located within T29N, R12E; Section UP16, as shown in Exhibit A. 

The entirety of the Sloan Peak Trail #648, beginning at its origin at the Sloan Peak Trailhead and continuing southwest to its terminus, located within T30N, R 12E, Sections 18 & 19 and T30N, R 11 E, Sections 24 & 25, as shown in Exhibit A. 

The entirety of the North Fork Sauk Trail #649, beginning at its origin at the North Fork Sauk Trailhead and continuing southeast to its terminus at the Pacific Crest Trail, located within T30N, R12E, Sections 29, 28, 33, 34, 35, and 36; T29N, R12E, Section PB37; T29N, R13E, Sections PB37 and UP1; T30N, R13E, Section UP36; and T29N, R14E, Section UP6, as shown in Exhibit A. 

The entirety of the Bald Eagle Trail #650, beginning at its origin at the Bald Eagle Trailhead and continuing south and east to its terminus at the Pacific Crest Trail, located within T29N, R 12E, Sections PB41, UP8, UP17, UP20, UP21, UP28, UP33, UP34, UP35, UP26, and UP25; T29N, R 13E, Sections UP26, UP25, and UP24; and T29N, R 14E, Section UP30, as shown in Exhibit A. 

The entirety of the Red Mountain Trail #651, located within T30N, R12E, Sections 29 and 28, as shown in Exhibit A. 

The entirety of the Pilot Ridge Trail #652, beginning at its origin at the intersection with the Nrth Fork Sauk Trail, and continuing Southeast to its terminus at the intersection with the Bald Eagle Trail, located within T30N, R12E, Section 34; T29N, R12E, Sections PB39, PB40, UP10, UP11, UP14, and UP13; T29N, R13E, Sections UP14, UP13, UP24, and UP25, as shown in Exhibit A. 

The entirety of the Blue Lake High Trail #652-1, from its origin at the intersection with the Pilot Ridge Trail to its terminus at the intersection with the Bald Eagle Trail, located within T29N, R13E, Section UP24; and T29N, R14E, Section UP30, as shown in Exhibit A. 

The entirety of the Johnson Mountain Trail #652-2, located within T29N, R13E, Section UP13, as shown in Exhibit A. 

EXEMPTIONS: 

Pursuant to 36 CFR § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order: 

  1. Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire-fighting force in the performance of an official duty.
  2. Persons with a Valid Forest Permit for Use of Roads, Trails, or Areas Restricted by Regulation or Order (Form FS-7700-48), specifically exempting them from this order. 

This prohibition is in addition to the general prohibitions in 36 CFR Part 261, Subpart A. 

Violations of this prohibition are punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than 6 months, or both (16 U.S.C. § 551; 18 U.S.C. §§ 3551, 3571, and 3581).
