Deer Creek (College Rock) Trailhead

The Deer Creek Trailhead is located next to D&F Pack Station at Huntington Lake. The trailhead starts out at 7240 feet, and can access the Kaiser Loop Trail, College Rock Trail, and Potter Pass Cutoff Trail. The popular destination is taking the College Rock Trail 3.1 miles up to the beautiful College Rock with wonderful views of Huntington Lake. The College Rock trail climbs steeply from the Deer Creek Trailhead 1815 feet to the top of College Rock which is 9055 feet in elevation. From College Rock it is 2.6 miles to Kaiser Peak 10310 feet. The Kaiser loop is 14.4 miles and can be accessed from Deer Creek Trailhead or Billy Creek Trailhead. 

General Information

June through October (dependent upon snowfall)

Day hiking permits are not required. Overnight permits are required in wilderness. Wilderness permit reservations are available at www.recreation.gov. Trailhead quotas are in place year-round. For all trails, 60 percent of the trailhead quota is available through advanced reservation 6 months prior to entry date and 40 percent is available 2 weeks prior to entry date, for first come-first served. There is a $6.00 non-refundable reservation fee and a $5.00 per person charge for everyone included in the reservation

No fires permitted above 10,000 feet

Domestic pets are allowed in the Kaiser Wilderness Area. Wilderness Visitors are responsible for their pet’s actions and welfare. Pets should be leashed and under direct voice control. When camping or hiking in areas with other visitors, pets must be kept on a leash.

Kaiser Wilderness - From Eastwood Visitor Center at Huntington Lake, travel west on the Huntington Lake Road until you reach the Kinnikinnick Campground, turn right into the campground, keep to the right and continue .5 miles on Upper Deer Creek Road and follow signs to the D& F Pack Station. Trailhead starts at Pack Station. Parking available at the D&F pack station.
