Billy Creek Trailhead

The Billy Creek Trailhead is located above Upper Billy Creek Campground at Huntington Lake. Billy Creek Trail is 2.3 miles long and intersects with the Mary’s Meadow Trail which is 1.9 miles in length. Billy Creek Trail also can access the Kaiser Loop trail and Coarsegrass Meadow Trail. The popular destination at Billy Creek Trailhead is to take the Kaiser Loop Trail 4.3 miles up to Nellie Lake. The trail is steep, and the elevation gain to Nellie Lake is 1920 feet, but the traveler will be rewarded with a wonderful hike.  

Common Destinations: Billy Creek, Mary’s Meadow, Nellie Lake, and Kaiser Peak 10310 feet. 

General Information

June - October

Permits are required for overnight camping in wilderness areas.  Wilderness permit reservations are available at www.recreation.gov. Trailhead quotas are in place year-round. For all trails, 60 percent of the trailhead quota is available through advanced reservation 6 months prior to entry date and 40 percent is available 2 weeks prior to entry date, for first come-first served. There is a $6.00 non-refundable reservation fee and a $5.00 per person charge for everyone included in the reservation.

No campfires above 10,000 ft.

Domestic pets are allowed in the Kaiser Wilderness Area. Wilderness Visitors are responsible for their pet’s actions and welfare. Pets should be leashed and under direct voice control. When camping or hiking in areas with other visitors, pets must be kept on a leash.

Directions

From Clovis: Take Highway 168 toward Huntington Lake. At the Eastwood visitor center travel west on Huntington Lake Road. Continue around Huntington Lake 3.2 miles to Upper Billy Creek Campground. The trailhead is 0.5 mile behind the campground. Follow signs towards the overflow camping.
