Castle Lake Campground
This small primitive campground is nestled in a thick mixed conifer forest about .25 miles below Castle Lake.
- Enjoy 6 sites with tables, fire rings and vault toilets.
- Bring your own water.
- 3-night stay-limit.
- Not recommended for large vehicle or trailers.
- Usually opens end of June depending on snow melt, usually closed by Oct. 15.
General Information
Visitors can walk or drive the short distance to Castle Lake, a pristine glacial cirque lake with granite cliffs and clear water — one of the most popular attractions in the Mount Shasta area.
- Hiking, swimming, fishing and flat-water kayaking are favorite activities here.
- Even a few hiking trails to explore, including the short and easy Shoreline Trail to the west of the lake and the trail up to Heart Lake overlooking Castle Lake.

Directions
From Mount Shasta city
- Head west on Lake Street, over freeway and to stop sign at Old Stage Road.
- Turn left (south) and drive .25 miles to a fork in the road.
- Stay right at the fork and continue on this road (W.A. Barr Road).
- In 2 miles, cross the dam at Lake Siskiyou and look for turnoff for Castle Lake.
- Turn left and drive paved road 7 miles to the lake.
Castle Lake Campground is .25 miles below the lake on the left (east) side of road.

Other Amenities
An undeveloped overflow area about a half a mile below the campground on the east side of the highway still offers leveled-off parking pads with a great view of Mount Shasta. However, it's mostly brushy with little or no shade, no facilities, and fires are generally prohibited.
