Camping Restrictions

Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 C.F.R. § 26l.50(a) and (b), and to protect natural resources, the following acts are prohibited within the Modoc National Forest. This Order is effective from May 18, 2021 through March 17, 2023.

Developed Campgrounds

l.    Camping for more than 14 consecutive days per calendar year in any single developed campsite. 36 C.F.R. § 26l.58(a).

2.    Use of a single developed campsite by more than eight persons, except where a single family unit composed of parent(s) or guardians and dependent children exceeds this limit. 36 C.F.R. § 26 l .58(f).

Undeveloped Campgrounds

1. Camping in undeveloped campsites for more than 14 consecutive days per calendar year, or for more than a total aggregate of 28 days per calendar year within the Modoc National Forest. 36 C.F.R. § 26 I .58(a).

Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:

1. Persons with Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 (Perm it for Use of Roads, Trails, or Areas Restricted by Regulation or Order), specifically exempting them from this Order.
   1. Any Federal, State or local officer or member of an organized rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of an official duty.

These prohibitions are in addition to the general prohibitions found in 36 C.F.R. Part 261, Subpart A. A violation of these prohibitions is punishable by a tine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or

$l 0,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both. 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 18 U.S.C. §§ 3559, 3571 and 358l.
