Wrights Lake Area

Wrights Lake faces the majestic rocky peaks of the Sierra Nevadas and Desolation Wilderness. The area is well-known for its hiking, wildflowers and birding. There are several trailheads from this area that access the Desolation Wilderness and the trailhead for the popular Barrett Lake Jeep Trail (16E21) is also nearby.  

No motorboats are allowed on Wrights Lake. 

General Information

For information about trails around Wrights Lake check the Desolation Wilderness Trails and Trailheads page. Rockbound Trailhead and Twin Lakes Trailhead are by the lake and Lyons Creek Trailhead is on the road that leads up to Wrights Lake. 

Passes & Permits

The Desolation Wilderness can be accessed from this area. If entering the Desolation Wilderness, a Wilderness Permit is required: 

Travel is restricted to horseback or foot only in the wilderness.
