Caribou-Targhee National Forest
The Forest Service follows NEPA regulations issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Under this rule, Forest Service officials determine which proposed projects are shared for public input.
The agency no longer issues a schedule of proposed actions (SOPA) report. Below is the current list of proposed projects available for review—your opportunity to learn more, share feedback, and stay engaged in decisions that shape the future of our public lands.

The Forest Service is considering amending its land management plans to address new and evolving issues arising since implementing sage-grouse plans in 2015. This project is in cooperation with the USDI Bureau of Land Management.
Analyze and disclose the effects of livestock grazing activities on the Fogg Butte, Ripley Butte, Bootjack, Grandview, Gerritt Meadows, West Lake, Antelope Park and Fall River Cattle and Horse (C&H) Allotments.

The boat ramp parking lots on Palisades Reservoir are frequently filled to capacity causing users to park on the shoulders of access roads. This proposal would authorize a 5-year special use permit to Caldera Snow Coach Tours to operate snow coach and cross-country ski tours on existing groomed snowmobile trails during the winter seasons.
The project proposes to build shelters over picnic tables at the Table Rock, Riverside Park, Falls Group Area, and Big Elk Creek developed campground to provide shade and cover from weather events.

The Montpelier Ranger District proposes to improve watershed function and ecosystem resilience in the Graham Hollow area in order to maintain and enhance sagebrush/grass, mountain brush, and meadow habitats.

The proposal is to treat up to 483 acres within the project area. Treatments proposed to reduce hazardous fuels include commercial timber sale, non-commercial thinning treatments, and prescribed fire with hand/aerial ignition (broadcast and piles).
The project proposes to amend an existing permit held by Fremont county to authorize a contractor to set up a batch plant for asphalt production for surfacing the Yale Kilgore Road within the existing footprint of the Keg Springs gravel pit.
The project proposes to restore approximately 2 stream miles of the lower portion of McCoy Creek by elevating riffles, stabilizing eroding banks, and creating floodplain benches to improve aquatic habitat including for Yellowstone cutthroat trout.
This project presents unique vegetation management opportunities to improve forest health and wildfire resilience through mechanical treatments, prescribed fire, and a mixture of the two on 32,700 acres with up to 12,200 acres of active treatment.

The Soda Springs Ranger District proposes to complete improvements to stream function, stability, and aquatic habitat on the Salt River Narrows through restoring eroded banks, revegetating areas, and adding stability structures.

Utilize existing protocols and data to establish Lynx Analysis Units (LAUs) on the Targhee portion of the Forest. The LAUs and identified lynx habitat will be subject to the Northern Rockies Lynx Management Direction.
Toponce Road (Forest Service Road 375) regularly becomes damaged from the stream overflow which increases road maintenance needs and delivers sediment directly into the stream. The project intends to realign the road.

Whiskey Creek, a tributary to Crow Creek, had an assumed flood that caused an avulsion. Project work is designed to return flow to the natural channel and reduce potential for future problems with roadwork.
The Soda Springs Ranger District proposes to make improvements to the sustainability on approximately 1,500 feet of the Wood Canyon Trail through reroutes and the installation of water control drain dips.
