Herbicide Application in Hermit's Peak Calf Canyon (HPCC) burned area

Starting July 1, 2025, contractors will be applying herbicide to invasive plants in the Hermit's Peak Calf Canyon (HPCC) burned area. Signs will be posted near treatment areas stating the name of the herbicide or management strategy used and the dates of when to avoid the area. Efforts will be focused near fire containment features like fuel breaks and fire lines. 

Work will be conducted during growing season typically from June to October. 

By implementing adaptive invasive plant management strategies, such as targeted herbicide application, we can foster the recovery of native plants that are resilient against disturbances like floods and wildfires

• Areas around the fire towers
• Cowels area
• North and east towards the Hermits Peak area
• Capulin Peak area
