Black Canyon Campground - Lower
This is a beautiful remote camping area. Trail #94 begins at the rear of the campground.
Located in a remote area of forest approximately 30 miles from the Wilderness Ranger District office. From Mimbres, take Highway 35 to Forest Road 150 at milepost 15. Turn north (right) and travel 26 miles over an improved dirt and rock road to Black Canyon Campground. Turn left and travel 0.5 mile over a steep stream crossing to the lower campground.
General Information
Closest Stores:
La Tienda, a small store in Mimbres, is the closest store to the campground. It is also the last place to get gas before going to Black Canyon.
RV Camping Notes
There is room for campers or trailers. However, with the steep stream crossing, long trailers are not recommended.
There is no garbage pickup at this location. Please pack out what you pack in and practice Leave No Trace camping.

Permits are required for commercial or organized uses.
Use of OHV and ATVs is prohibited in the campground. Hunting and shooting are prohibited in the campground. Stock animals are not allowed in the immediate campground. A 14-day stay limit applies.

Travel Considerations
Sections of Forest Road 150 can be very rough, especially through Rocky Canyon - high clearance 4WD vehicles are recommended. Black Canyon Campground experienced flooding following the 2022 Black Fire. Potential exists for flooding during periods of high stream flows.
