Permits

Permits are required for gathering forest products, cutting a Christmas tree, or participating in activities that require additional cultural and resource protection like caving.  Special-use permits are required for easements, utilities and activities like commercial ventures, filming, recreation events, and large gatherings. 

Forest Products

Special forest products include items such as firewood, mushroom, beargrass leaves, fern greens, pinecones, evergreen boughs and huckleberries.

Special Uses

Special-use authorizations grant rights or privileges for specific uses on national forest system lands including: recreation residences (summer cabins), recreation events, outfitter-guides, utility lines, filming, communication facilities and more. 

Research, Collection, and Other Permits

We consider research one of the many allowed uses of public land. Some research and collection will require a permit.
