Meadows Group Campground

Southwest of Denver at an elevation of 7,400 feet, Meadows Group Campground offers a wonderful opportunity for groups to enjoy the great outdoors. In the Buffalo Creek Recreation Area there are multiuse, nonmotorized trails nearby. Fishing in also possible in the area.

The campground is located behind a closed USFS gate. A valid reservation is needed to access the campground.  The host is located down the road at the Buffalo Campground.

Dates of operation are posted on Recreation.gov. Visitors may expect full service from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend. The area also has an extended season when services such as water, trash or a host may not be available in the fall or spring.

Call 877-444-6777 or visit Recreation.gov at least 4 days in advance. Friday and Saturday night minimum required stay on weekends. Three nights minimum on holiday weekends.

Groups will be required to obtain and additional permit for selling merchandise or food. 
Interagency Senior Passes and Interagency Access Passes do not obtain a discount for group campsites and other group facilities that charge a flat fee.

A maximum of 25 vehicles per group site are allowed.

The following restrictions apply to this campground:

  • Dogs must be leashed at all times.
  • No discharge of firearms or fireworks.
  • Only licensed vehicles can operate inside campground.
  • Camping is not allowed behind a locked gate.
  • Bears are common in the area, and a bear closure order is in place. All bear attractants, both food and nonfood items that can attract bears, should be kept in a bear-resistant manner. Bear bags, bear boxes and coolers within hard-sided vehicles are safer ways of storing attractants. Pop-ups, tents and open-top vehicles are not safe storage areas. Tips for camping in bear country are available from camp hosts.

$195 fee for overnight camping.

Dogs must be on a leash at all times.

Directions

From Denver, travel U.S. Highway 285 and turn south at Pine Junction on to Jefferson County Road 126 for 13.5 miles to Forest Service Road 550. Travel west for 5.5 miles. Stay left for another mile. The Meadows Group Campground will be on the left.
