Lakeview Campground

Lakeview Campground is a large campground situated in lodgepole pine, ponderosa pine and sage habitat at an elevation of 9,500 feet, overlooking Twin Lakes Reservoir. Facilities include vault restrooms, picnic tables, fire rings and pedestal grills.

The campground has eight loops, labeled A through H. Loops A-F are reservable sites, while sites in loops G and H are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are not reservable. Some of the sites have beautiful views of Twin Lakes Reservoir. 

High altitude sickness may occur at this altitude.

General Information

Lakeview Campground, with wonderful views of the Twin Lakes Reservoir, is located about 20 miles south of Leadville, Colorado. The campground attracts many hikers looking to explore nature and the hiking trails in the surrounding area. Boaters can launch their craft at the nearby boat dock, and fishing enthusiasts can find numerous locations at Twin Lakes Reservoir for fishing.

Opening and closing dates are weather dependent. Services such as water, trash or a host may not be available during early and late season.

The Interagency Senior Pass (previously known as the Golden Age Pass) and the Interagency Access Pass qualifies for a 50% discount at concessionaire run campsites. The discount only applies to the fee for the campsite physically occupied by the pass owner, not to any additional campsite(s) occupied by members of the pass owner's party.

The following restrictions apply to this campground:

  • A maximum of eight people, three tents and two vehicles or one recreational vehicle (RV) and two tents per site.
  • Dogs must be on a leash at all times.
  • No discharge of firearms or fireworks is permitted.
  • Only licensed vehicles can operate inside the campground.
  • Camping is not allowed behind a locked gate.

$30 fee per site for overnight camping. Two vehicles or one recreational vehicle per site is included in the camping fee. $11 fee for a third vehicle. RVs and ATV/boat trailers count as one vehicle.

Fees are payable by cash, check or money order. A self-service fee tube is available for on-site payment. First-come, first-served sites must be occupied the first night.

Dogs must be on a leash at all times.

Directions

From Leadville, Colorado, travel 15 miles south on U.S. Highway 24, turn right on U.S. Highway 82 and travel 4 miles to Lake County Road 24. Turn right on Lake County Road 24 at the campground sign and travel 1 mile north to the campground, which is on the left side of the road.

Potable water is not available at this site.

Water will not be available in this campground in 2025.

Please bring enough water for your needs, including water to fully extinguish your campfire.

Also, the RV dump station at White Star will remain closed this season.

Other Amenities

Firewood is available at the host site for $10 per bundle.
